Zaha Hadid
Biography:
Zaha Hadid, born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1950. Studied Mathematics at the American University in Beirut and Architecture at the Architectural Association School in London. In 1980, after her studies, she established an architecture bureau in London and taught at the Architectural Association School.
In 1982, she won the “Architectural Design” Gold Medal for a design for conversion work on a maisonette apartment in Eaton Place, London, and the competition for the “Peak Club” in Hong Kong. In 1986, she came first in a competition for a building on the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin and held exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum New York and the G.A. Gallery in Tokyo. In 1988, she held a joint exhibition, “Deconstructive Architecture“, with Philip Johnson and Mark Wigley at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2004, Zaha Hadid became the first woman to be awarded the Hyatt Foundation’s Pritzker Architecture Prize.
