Ravioli Chair & Ottoman

Overview

The work of Architect and theorist Greg Lynn is closely concerned with the new innovations that computer-based design and manufacturing methods bring to architecture and design. Ravioli Chair is a comfortable seat for everyday use, its form is the result of a largely automatic design process. For the design of the Ravioli Chair, computer simulation was used to expand a flat square surface into a moulded three-dimensional form combining the functions of base, seat hollow, arm surface and backrest in a unified shape. The Ravioli Ottoman takes up the expressive formal idiom of the chair and serves as a comfortable companion piece. Since the perimeter contour of the ottoman corresponds precisely to the shape of the chair, they fit together perfectly to create a small seating landscape, which can be expanded in any direction with additional Ravioli elements.
