For over 50 years, Vitra has worked with important designers like Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson, Verner Panton, Mario Bellini, Antonio Citterio, Alberto Meda, Maarten Van Severen, Jasper Morrison, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Hella Jongerius to create furniture for offices, homes and public venues. The scope of Vitra's interests goes beyond the production of furniture, however, to encompass the broader culture of design and architecture. In 1989, Vitra Design Museum was founded as an independent foundation. Today, the Vitra Design Museum is an internationally active cultural institution making major contributions to the research and popular dissemination of design and architecture.

The Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein – just outside of Basel – features widely acclaimed buildings by leading representatives of contemporary architecture like Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Nicholas Grimshaw, Alvaro Siza and Antonio Citterio as well as structures by Jean Prouvé and Richard Buckminster Fuller. We look forward to your visit.

Exhibitions

  • Weil am Rhein, May 16, 2009 - autumn 2009
    ANTIBODIES / Works by Fernando & Humberto Campana 1989 - 2009

    Show

The Brazilians Fernando and Humberto Campana are the most significant designers in present-day Latin America. In addition to designs for European manufacturers of furniture, lighting and home accessories, the majority of creations coming out of their Sao Paulo studio consist of custom-made one-off objects for the home characterized by idiosyncratic material experiments and a surrealistic impression. The retrospective on the 20-year collaboration between the two brothers emphasizes the artistic working method and explains how the works take shape - from the first sculptures up to the interdisciplinary works of today - based on prototypes, experiments and one-off pieces.

    Opening hours: Mon – Sun: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Wed: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Guided tours through the exhibition: Sat and Sun: 11 a.m., Wed: 6 p.m.
