Exhibitions: Since being founded in 1989, the Vitra Design Museum has grown to become one of the world’s most highly recognized cultural institutions for research on and the popularization of design and architecture. A foundation funded by Vitra yet independent of it curates shows, stages workshops and releases publications on the topics of design and architecture. The shows are featured in international institutions and museums around the globe. www.design-museum.de
Publications: The Vitra Design Museum designs and produces its own catalogues for each exhibition. Renowned writers and photographers supply background information on the themes and exhibits. The thorough documentation makes most of these publications standard works in their field. www.design-museum.com
Workshops: The Centre International de Recherche et d’Education Culturelle et Agricole (C.I.R.E.C.A.) conducts interdisciplinary workshops in the summer in collaboration with the Vitra Design Museum and the Centre Georges Pompidou. The participants work and live for a week with leading international architects, designers and artists at Domaine de Boisbuchet, an idyllic country estate in southwest France. The purpose of the courses is to give participants insights into design processes and the associated challenges of rational thought, imagination and manual skills. www.boisbuchet.org
Miniatures: The Vitra Design Museum creates miniatures of well-known classics in furniture history at a scale of 1:6. They are coveted by design aficionados and suitable as demonstration objects for teaching and training.
