Vitra will be showing the following new products and ideas at Orgatec 2008.
The Playns height-adjustable individual workstations can be grouped together into clusters. “Large desk” configurations reflect customers’ specific needs – and offer real options. These constructions, with a central channel for a power supply that feeds every workstation, are so stable that two desks placed opposite each other only need four legs.
The screens come in two sizes. Their function is to shut off certain areas and they define an independent working environment for each Playns workstation, allowing, in conjunction with the adjustable height feature, both netting and nesting at every individual workstation.
Softshell Chair’s upholstered shell is entirely covered with either a knitted fabric or with leather which gives the chair its comfortable appearance. The backrest is flexible and, with its structural elements hidden under the cover, makes for extraordinarily great sitting comfort.
Thanks to the various different upholstery materials, colours, and bases – four legs, four-star base on glides and height-adjustable five-star base on castors – the individual elements of Softshell Chair are very flexible: it is just as suitable for conference and visitor areas, temporary workstations and home offices as it is for the dining table – either at home or in a restaurant.
With a backrest in high-grade leather and generous upholstery, Skape, the new executive chair by Antonio Citterio, offers an extraordinary degree of sitting comfort. The end of the seat is embraced by its armrests that form a kind of shell with the backrest. Skape boasts a restrained elegance and makes a prestigious addition to various different executive office environments.
The executive office programme ACE features two desk shapes: the triangular desk with rounded edges and the boat-shaped desk. The tabletops are made of a homogenous solid mineral-material and the sideboards are adapted to the sizes of the desks. Despite the dimensions of the desks, ACE radiates lightness and transparency thanks to the white material and the elegant, Y-shaped legs made of polished aluminium.
AC 4 is an elegant office and conference chair in the tradition of Antonio Citterio’s matter-of-fact designs. Its ergonomic qualities are subtly integrated. The slim, upholstered backrest divides up invisibly into a zone of lumbar support, a sinking back zone for the upper back area and a supporting zone for the shoulders. AC 4 boasts a synchronous mechanism with automatic weight adaptation for the backrest support and fine adjustment, and its armrests, that "grow" out of the backrest, are available as 3D armrests or as ring-shaped aluminium armrests.
WorKit, the new office furniture system by Arik Levy, is a simple, rational and flexible solution for communicative office areas. The connecting piece, which Arik Levy describes as the system's DNA, opens up a multitude of possibilities with only a few parts. The screens for the middle of the desk can guide communications channels and the side screens serve to partition off large areas.
The core element of WorKit is its root-shaped connecting piece that serves to attach, connect or define legs, cross-bars, tabletops and PC holders.
ArchiMeda, the new height-adjustable desk by Alberto Meda, brings that healthy alternation between sitting and standing into the executive office: the height of the high-grade wood veneer top is adjusted electrically using a scissors-like folding mechanism. ArchiMeda is also suitable as a conference table – for meetings conducted seated as well as for discussing documents and plans while standing around them.
Technical solutions featuring restrained aesthetics are typical of engineer and designer Alberto Meda.
Caddy is a piece of mobile storage furniture which users can work at standing up. Thanks to its straightforward design, Caddy can be combined with any conventional workstation while, at the same time, allowing for non-territorial work and collaborative efforts. Caddy can be adapted to the various needs of different users at any time because it has individual equipment options and can be electrified.
FOG Office is a design by Frank Gehry for his building on the Novartis Campus in Basle. Vitra will initially be manufacturing 130 items of this technically sophisticated design before thinking about taking its development further, together with Frank Gehry, and producing a serial product.
The mind is placed in a different state if it is isolated for a short time, has no contact to the usual surroundings. Hidden energy is activated, an ability to concentrate regained, and relevant things revealed. Without doubt, influencing our sensory abilities by robbing them of one of the senses changes our perception of the world: It lends the other senses a keener touch. Reset furniture attempts to create novel places for concentration in the work world of tomorrow and to open up alternative possible solutions.
Classic Hollywood swing that rocks pleasantly conveying a feeling of relaxation and leisure. The idea behind Basket, a concept study developed by Vitra together with Werner Aisslinger, is to transfer these associations to the office. With Basket, the typical roof element is missing and a large basket made of woven, strengthened textile ribbons forms a protected area around the seat with cushions, creating an island of retreat within the open-plan office and an effective nesting situation for up to three people.
