An Exhibition Like A Sketchbook
Ronan Bouroullec on Rêveries Urbaines
The Vitra Design Museum is showing an exhibition created by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. “Rêveries Urbaines“ is part of a series that focusses on concepts related to the use of public spaces. Rêveries Urbaines is on display in Zaha Hadid's Fire Station on the Vitra Campus until 22 January 2017.
“Personally, I found a new energy in this project, like the kind I had when I first started working as a designer.“
Ronan Bouroullec
“The starting point of our exhibition Rêveries Urbaines was in Rennes, the capital of the French region Bretagne, where we originally come from. We were asked to do a project in the city. And we thought for a long time about this and tried a few possible options. Eventually, we decided not to work on a single, materialised concept, but proposed rather to create an exhibition resembling a large-scale sketchbook – a collection of our research on public spaces. While working on this collection, we have been asking ourselves: What could be interesting in a city? What is the role of nature in urban landscapes? We called this project Rêveries Urbaines. It’s a dream, it’s poetic and at the same time it’s extremely pragmatic. Personally, I found a new energy in this project, like the kind I had when I first started working as a designer.“
