Shiro Kuramata
Biographie
- Shiro Kuramata, né en 1934 à Tokyo, Japon, étudie l’architecture à l’Université technique de Tokyo, puis suit une formation d‘ébéniste à l’Institut de design Kuwasawa à Tokyo. De 1957 à 1964 il travaille dans la société San-Ai, en 1965 il fonde le bureau « Kuramata Design Office » à Tokyo. Dans les années 70, il se consacre plus au design mobilier. Ses créations, entre autres pour le groupe « Memphis » à Milan, attirent particulièrement l’attention par le choix inhabituel des matériaux. Dans les années 80 il travaille en étroite coopération avec Issey Miyake pour lequel il crée plusieurs boutiques. Shiro Kuramata meurt en 1991 à Tokyo.
