Maarten Van Severen, 1998

The aesthetic hallmark of the .03 chair is its sleek, slim shape – a design that can be seen as an expression of the concept 'less is more'. At the same time, the chair is unexpectedly comfortable: made of resilient polyurethane integral foam, the linear shape of the seat shell adapts to the body. When the sitter leans back, the upper part of the backrest yields slightly – a pleasant sensation created by the integrated leaf springs. The extraordinary comfort of .03 is first revealed upon use.

The story of a Vitra original

Vitra originals and their stories

Every Vitra product is an original. And every original has a story. Each story describes how an idea was conceived, through the ups and downs of development, the many prototypes, how they became finished products, and the ‘what happens next’. The main actors in these stories are the designers and Vitra. These are our stories. Only we can tell them. That’s how we define an original. Because in the end: The original comes from Vitra. Just like its story.
