General informationStarting on Saturday, 20 March 2021, the Vitra Campus and the Vitra Design Museum will be reopened to the public daily from noon to 5 pm. This applies to the exhibition venues of the Vitra Design Museum and the shops in the museum, Vitra Schaudepot and VitraHaus. All guests of the Vitra Campus must book a time slot prior to their visit and register upon arrival.

The VitraHaus Café and Depot Deli currently remain closed, but a selection of beverages and snacks will be available for
take-away service from 20 March 2021. Due to the limitations on group gatherings, the Vitra Design Museum has not yet resumed its guided tours, workshops or other events. The latest updates can be found on our website and in our newsletters.
VitraHaus The VitraHaus, a striking building designed by Basel-based architects Herzog & de Meuron, is Vitra’s flagship store and also serves as a field of experimentation. To commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the VitraHaus in 2020, Vitra has encapsulated the experiences and insights of the past decade in a new interior. Under the current provisions, visitors have access to the shop on the ground floor and can also book an appointment for a personal product consultation. The other floors of the VitraHaus are not open to visitors at the present time.
Vitra Design MuseumThe major Vitra Design Museum exhibition »German Design 1949–1989: Two Countries, One History« is open to visitors daily from 12 to 5pm beginning on 20 March 2021. More than thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Vitra Design Museum presents the first panoramic overview of post-war design in the two Germanies. From 20 March to 5 September 2021, the exhibition »German Design 1949–1989: Two Countries, One History« will offer a comparative selection of design from East and West Germany and explore ideological and aesthetic differences as well as parallels and interrelations between East and West. Exhibits range from iconic pieces of furniture and lamps to graphic, industrial, and interior design to fashions, textiles, and personal ornaments.
Online Opening Days / 19 March to 8 April 2021The Online Opening Days for the exhibition »German Design 1949–1989: Two Countries, One History« offer an opportunity to experience the exhibition in many facets ahead of your visit. www.design-museum.de/German-Design-OnlineVitra Design Museum GalleryThe exhibition »Memphis: 40 Years of Kitsch and Elegance« is currently on display in the Vitra Design Museum Gallery. The Italian design collective Memphis was one of the most unusual phenomena to emerge in the realm of design over the past decades. The exhibition celebrates the fortieth anniversary of the group’s founding with a presentation of furniture, lamps, bowls, drawings, sketches, and photographs that offer new perspectives on the world of Memphis. Exhibits include works by Ettore Sottsass, Michele De Lucchi, Martine Bedin, Michael Graves, Barbara Radice, Peter Shire, Nathalie Du Pasquier, and Shiro Kuramata.
Vitra SchaudepotThe Vitra Schaudepot is featuring the exhibition »Gae Aulenti: A Creative Universe« until 18 April 2021. This show provides new insights into the work of the designer and architect Gae Aulenti, one of the most important figures in Italian design during the post-war period. In addition to the iconic designs she created in the areas of lighting and furniture, Aulenti also gained international renown for her pioneering architectural work, such as the transformation of the Paris train station Gare d’Orsay into today’s Musée d’Orsay.
Digital InitiativeThe Vitra Design Museum continues to offer an expanded programme on its digital channels (website, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter), making it possible for guests who still cannot visit the campus and museum in person to experience its current exhibitions. The formats include video tours of the present shows with their respective curators, online presentations of the collection and regular live talks on Instagram.
