With its four-legged base in tubular steel, the DAX (Dining Height Armchair X-Base) is the most understated version of Charles and Ray Eames's classic plastic chair. Material description
  • Seat shell: dyed-through, glass-fibre reinforced polyester (fibreglass).
  • Base: non-stacking four-legged tubular steel base. The powder-coated version is suitable for outdoor use. (DAX = Dining Height Armchair X-Base)
  • Note: special additives retard the fading of colours due to UV radiation. However, if the chair is exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods, the colour may change over time. We recommend limited exposure to sunlight.

In 1948, Charles and Ray Eames participated in the 'International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design', organised by the New York Museum of Modern Art, entering a chair with a seat shell moulded to fit the contours of the human body along with a concept for a variety of bases.
