The one-piece organic shell with its curved armrests, designed specially by Jasper Morrison for the HAL Armchair, bestows the chair with a unique character – while still bearing a strong family resemblance to the rest of the extensive HAL chair range. The Tube Stackable model with its unobtrusive, four-legged tubular steel base can be stacked, without the optional seat cushion.

Tubular steel base
- Seat shell: dyed-through polypropylene, with armrests. All versions of the HAL Armchair are available with seat cushions (attached to shell with screws).
- Seat shell: dyed-through polypropylene.
- Base: stackable four-legged tubular steel base with chrome-plated finish. Up to 6 chairs can be stacked on the floor or on a stacking trolley. Chairs with seat cushions should not be stacked, since stacking could damage the upholstery.
Jasper Morrison has added a new option to the HAL chair family: the HAL Armchair. Based on the HAL seat shell, he developed an organic one-piece shell that takes on a distinctive look of its own with the curved armrests 'growing' out from the sides – while still bearing a clear family resemblance to the rest of the line. The shell construction responds to the physical forces operating on the seat and provides maximum stability and superb comfort with a minimum amount of material. This comfort is enhanced even further in the versions with a seat cushion. For the base, there is a choice of four-legged bases in tubular steel or wood as well as a five-star base on castors. Thanks to the openings under the armrests, HAL Armchairs with a tubular steel base can be stacked (but only in the version without a seat cushion).

Jasper Morrison lives and works in London and Tokyo. His designs are expressions of the ‘super normal’ design philosophy: rather than seeking unusual or extravagant results, he often breathes new life into proven solutions by means of reinterpretation, further development and refinement. He has worked together with Vitra on a regular basis since 1989.
