The legendary designers and architects Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen created the Organic Chair in 1940 as part of their entry for 'Organic Design in Home Furnishings', a competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The compact armchair features a biomorphically shaped shell with upholstery on all sides to ensure superb comfort. For the 2019/2020 winter season, Vitra has developed the Organic Chair Sheepskin. The cosy look of the premium-grade sheepskin invites sitters to experience the indulgent feel of its fleecy warmth. The Organic Chair Sheepskin is a special edition available in a limited quantity. Each piece will come with a numbered label.

Material description
  • Seat shell: laminated.
  • Upholstery: polyurethane foam with fabric cover.
  • Legs: black ash or natural oak.
  • Glides: fitted with plastic glides for carpet, felt glides for hard floors additionally included.
  • Origin of wood: oak (Quercus robur) and ash (Fraxinus excelsior) from Western Europe and/or Poland.
  • Seat shell: laminated.
  • Upholstery: polyurethane foam with sheepskin cover in the colour 'moonlight'.
  • Base: natural oak.
  • Glides: fitted with plastic glides for carpet, felt glides for hard floors additionally included.

The Organic Chair – a small and comfortable reading chair – was developed in several versions for the 1940 'Organic Design in Home Furnishings' competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. With its sculptural shapes, the design was ahead of the times. But due to the absence of suitable manufacturing techniques, the armchair never went into production.
