HAL Soft Tube Stackable

Jasper Morrison, 2021
With the addition of HAL Soft, Vitra and Jasper Morrison have expanded the comprehensive HAL chair family to include a version with an upholstered shell covered entirely in fabric. The padded upholstery provides superb comfort, with rounded contours that soften the appearance of the characteristic HAL shell.

The fabric cover is attached to the underside of the shell under a protective cover, and can be removed and replaced as needed. HAL Soft is therefore suited for use not just in private homes, but also in offices and other semi-public or public spaces. And thanks to the various bases and a wide choice of materials and colours, HAL Soft makes an attractive addition to diverse styles of interior.

HAL Soft exists in the versions HAL Soft Wood with wooden legs, HAL Soft Tube with tubular steel legs and HAL Soft Tube Stackable. With the stackable version, the protective cover under the seat safeguards the upholstery and fabric of the chair below.

HAL
'Special is generally less useful than normal': this statement sums up Jasper Morrison's guiding principle for creating designs that are 'super normal' rather than extraordinary, showing deference to the dictates of daily life – just like HAL. As a reinterpretation of the multifunctional shell chair, HAL comprises a versatile seating family with a clean contemporary look. The shape of the seat shell provides great freedom of movement in a variety of sitting positions – even sideways or astride the chair. The 15 different chair bases can be combined with a seat shell in polypropylene (HAL), in plywood (HAL Ply) or with a lightly padded shell covered in leather (HAL Leather). In the versions with a polypropylene shell and powder-coated base, HAL is also suitable for use in outdoor settings. As additional options, a fabric seat cover in various colours is available for all versions of HAL, and models with a plastic seat shell can be outfitted with a fixed seat cushion. The related HAL Armchair rounds out the HAL family.
