The Vitra Eames collection has been thoroughly reworked to suit contemporary needs.

In addition to revisiting the colour palette, which pays homage to the original Eames colour schemes, European-sourced wood has been adopted for the Eames Lounge Chair, Eames Elephant in plywood, Stools, Occasional Tables LTR, Hang it all and the Eames House Bird along with updated surface treatments. This update reflects Vitra’s strong commitment to the longevity and sustainability of its products.

Vitra has also re-introduced the La Fonda base, which will be available for the entire Eames Shell Chairs family. The height of the base has been adjusted and it comes in two new powder-coated finishes alongside the classic version in polished aluminium. And for the Wire Chairs, there is a new removable outdoor ‘Bikini’ cushion.

Vitra is also expanding the choice of colours for the powder coating of the Aluminium and Soft Pad Groups: in addition to the existing black version, the new options of dark bordeaux and chalk will be offered. These hues are derived from the Eames colours aubergine and parchment and create new configuration options. True to the spirit of the Eameses, Vitra has further refined many details of the Lounge Chair, drawing on decades of production experience and ensuring its sustainability for the future.

Charles and Ray Eames are counted among the most important figures of twentieth-century design. Their work spans the fields of furniture design, filmmaking, photography and exhibition design. To coincide with the launch of updated Eames products in autumn, Vitra has published a book entitled Eames & Vitra. The book describes the special relationship between Vitra and the Eameses and presents designs produced by Vitra from the 1950s until today, shedding light on topics such as authenticity and archival holdings.
