Slow Chair & Slow Sofa
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2006/2025

The Slow Chair developed by Vitra together with designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in 2006 has since established itself as a Vitra classic. Vitra has now created another variant of the iconic armchair and also added the Slow Sofa. With their distinctive aesthetic, the sofa and armchair integrate seamlessly into modern interiors while bringing a contemporary touch to classic settings – be it at home, in the hotel lobby or in the office.
The design uses the principle of a textile sling cover fitted precisely over a tubular steel frame. This creates a sink-in effect with just the right amount of tension to ensure appealing comfort, especially when supplemented with loose cushions.

'At the time, Erwan and I had the idea of trying to create a soft supportive armchair that achieved superb comfort through finesse rather than huge quantities of foam.'

A haven for slowing down
Twenty years later and after months of research and development into the possibility of using opaque fabric on the same structure, a new version of the Slow Chair was created alongside the introduction of the Slow Sofa. The upholstery features the use of recycled PET and polyester fibres for added comfort and sustainability.

The Slow Chair and the Slow Sofa invite you to relax in cosy comfort and provide a haven to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, making them a cherished spot to unwind.
'Comfort, playfulness along with a soft elegance. I believe these three qualities perfectly define the product family.'
Ronan Bouroullec

Sustainable comfort
Slow Chair (fabric) & Slow Sofa
The seat cushions are filled with recycled PET fibres, while the neck and back cushions are filled with 100% recycled polyester from post-consumer waste. The fabric covers of the seat, neck and back cushions may be removed for cleaning or replacement and can be ordered as spare parts.

Slow Chair (knit)
The seat cushion is made of V-Foam. Developed jointly by Vitra and BASF, V-Foam is the world's first economically recyclable polyurethane foam.
