Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft GmbH
Essen, Germany

Luther is one of Germany’s leading commercial law firms, with ten locations in Germany and eleven international offices. In 2025, the Essen site moved into the former RWE Tower designed by Christoph Ingenhoven; at 162 metres tall it has shaped Essen’s skyline since 1996 and is one of the tallest buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia. The new offices were to function as a modern working environment with high-quality design that would do justice to the building’s architectural character. This aim was implemented as an open spatial concept that reflects the building’s round shape, facilitates impressive views across the city and preserves the necessary discretion.

In line with the desire for a holistic solution and because of the quality and longevity of the products, Vitra was chosen to plan and furnish the work areas. The team from the Vitra Consulting & Planning Studio (CPS) developed a representative solution for central areas with open-plan spaces, conference areas, central zones, private offices and a communal kitchen. Focused work and planned meetings have been carefully combined with open work areas that support new forms of collaboration. Thus the new environment also supports a cultural shift: away from exclusively closed office shapes, towards a workplace landscape that, depending on the task, facilitates withdrawal or interaction and connection.
