Mynt
Erwan Bouroullec, 2025
The universal chair Mynt by Erwan Bouroullec combines the appealing home-like aesthetic of a studio chair with a completely new dynamic sitting experience.
'The movement has defined the aesthetics of the chair – its elegance and functional mechanism go hand in hand.'
Erwan Bouroullec
Redefines dynamic sitting
The core element is its patented mechanism, which is activated by body weight and tilts forwards or backwards depending on shifts in the sitter's position – with the seat moving independently of the backrest. The movement resistance automatically adapts to the user's weight – only the height has to be adjusted.
Fit for any task and space
Mynt defies conventional categorisation and combines the home-like appeal and unassuming aesthetic of a universal chair with the ergonomics of a dynamic task chair. It thus brings a new way of sitting to any setting: a versatile all-rounder ideal for the office – as well as shared spaces – its understated design also makes an attractive addition to home dining tables.
Future-proof
Mynt is designed for sustainable longevity with exchangeable parts: the upholstery, glides and castors can be replaced or renewed by the user, while the seat and backrest in recycled plastic or wood can be exchanged by trained service staff. Mynt consists of up to 86% recycled materials and is 99% recyclable at the end of its product life – plus its padded seat covers are made of V-Foam, the world’s first economically recyclable polyurethane foam developed by Vitra in collaboration with BASF.

FAQ
What's so special about the seat mechanism on Vitra's universal chair Mynt?
The patented mechanism of the universal chair Mynt is activated by body weight. The mechanical unit tilts forwards or backwards depending on shifts in the user's position – with the seat moving independently of the backrest. The body remains in a state of active balance when sitting on Mynt, prompted to continually perform a range of smaller and larger movements – whether at home office desks, in office workspaces or around meeting room tables.
Mynt not only provides a new seating experience, but ensures dynamic sitting – which has been shown to have a positive impact on physical health and ergonomic comfort. Should the user wish to temporarily restrict the mechanism's range of movement – for upright sitting around a dining table, for example – this can be achieved by operating a lever under the seat.

How sustainable is the Mynt chair? What is the proportion of recycled material?
The Mynt studio chair is designed with a small number of parts, which can be replaced individually and are sourced exclusively from Europe. Mynt consists of up to 86% recycled materials and is 99% recyclable at the end of its service life. For the office chair's padded seat covers, Vitra has collaborated with BASF to develop V-Foam, the world's first economically recyclable polyurethane foam.
Which of Mynt's parts can be replaced?
The upholstered covers as well as the castors and glides of the universal office chair can be replaced by users themselves and ordered individually here. For enhanced comfort, the padded covers are available either in a complete set or as single seat or back covers. They can be dry cleaned to keep Mynt looking fresh.
If the glides need to be exchanged for castors or vice versa, these can be replaced by users themselves. However, this alters the height of the chair and the dimensions no longer fulfil GS requirements. If these criteria are still to be met, the gas spring also needs to be replaced, which must be performed by trained service staff.

How is the universal office chair Mynt delivered?
Mynt is delivered fully assembled in a polyethylene bag or on request in a cardboard box. Either way, it is ready for immediate use.
