Vitra for NYCxDesign – A Landscape for Living

New York, May 19th - 24th, 2017

Vitra will be celebrating NYCxDesign 2017 with “A Landscape for Living”: a contemporary ensemble showcasing the theme of living and dining, the centerpiece of which will be Vitra’s range of soft seating designs.

A Landscape for Living
At the heart of the installation will be six different living and dining vignettes, highlighting Vitra’s competence in soft seating and versatility for both residential and contract applications. Among these will be sofas and lounge chairs reimagined in fabrics by Hella Jongerius and Raf Simons for Kvadrat. In addition to Vitra’s sofa collection, the scene will also include a selection of Nanimarquina’s newly launched rugs.

The Secret Garden
Upon entering the Vitra showroom, visitors will be greeted by a spring-themed installation featuring the iconic Panton Chair in the limited edition color “Sunlight” and the outdoor-friendly All Plastic Chair by Jasper Morrison. This will be complemented by a sneak peek of Hans Coray’s Landi Chair on the terrace.

Accessories by Vitra & Artek
Among Vitra’s newest accessories are Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’s Nuage – a modular vase originally designed as a plastic shelf module – and the Eames Plywood Mobile. Both share the authenticity, joy and playfulness that make up Vitra’s Accessories ever since the design of its first classics by George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames and Alexander Girard. One of Artek’s most recent introductions are the Riihitie Plant Pots, originally designed by Aino Aalto for the Aalto’s family home.

The Vitra Color and Material Library
A color lab will give visitors the opportunity to playfully experiment with a multitude of surface materials and fabrics from Vitra’s Color & Material Library. This intelligent system of colors, textures, finishes and materials is the result of a ten-year research project in collaboration with the Dutch designer Hella Jongerius.

Artek Finland 100
In celebration of Finland’s centennial as an independent nation, a range of Aalto classics and Finland 100 Specials will be on display throughout the installation. Highlights include the L-Leg Table, the Armchair 400, the “Golden Bell” Pendant Light (A330S) and different pieces from the Kiki Collection.
