Ciudadela

Mexico-City, Mexico

Tobacco factory, prison, arsenal, hospital, administrative building – these were ‘Ciudadela’ the purposes to which the building had been put before being restored to its former glory in the form of a library. After visiting the building, BBC London reported that this was probably the world’s most beautiful public library. It is furnished in various styles, but Vitra furniture is found everywhere, from the reading rooms and offices through the cafeteria and terrace to the children’s area and book storage facilities. The furnishings were chosen to complement the architecture as perfectly as possible.
