Tate Modern

London, England

Tate Modern, Britain's national gallery of international modern art, is housed in a former power station on the bank of the River Thames, in the heart of London. The Switch House, an addition designed by Basel-based architects Herzog & de Meuron, opened in mid-2016 and extended the museum's display and exhibition space by 60 percent. British designer Jasper Morrison collaborated with the architects to arrive at furniture layouts that work with the interior spaces.

Furnishings in the public zone and office areas not only had to demonstrate an understated aesthetic, in keeping with the building's overall design specifications, but also withstand the rigorous demands of public spaces. Vitra furniture offered ideal solutions for all these areas.
