May 18 (New York, NY) – Swiss design manufacturer Vitra will celebrate NYCxDESIGN at its New York showroom this year by debuting new Vitra and Artek designs in the U.S. alongside a historical exhibit “The original comes from Vitra”. Opening May 20th, the installation will showcase the stories behind iconic and contemporary Vitra designers through the lens of new product and archival content.Under the common theme of “The original comes from Vitra”, six different urban living environments – each a unique combination of Vitra sofa and dining pieces with a distinct character – are presented alongside reinterpretations of iconic classics, including two limited editions of the Panton Chair in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Among the new contemporary launches with their own dedicated display are the Stool-Tool by Konstantin Grcic, a special edition of Hella Jongerius’ Polder Sofa, HAL Colour Tubes by Jasper Morrison and a collaboration with Swiss fashion brand Akris. Selected designs from other manufacturers such as Nanimarquina’s rug “Blur” by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, complement the installation.
