Eames Tandem Seating ETS
Tandem Seating was designed by Charles and Ray Eames at the request of a friend, the architect Eero Saarinen, who was in search of suitable seating for the waiting areas in his new Dulles Airport terminal in Washington, D.C. The architects of two new terminals at Chicago's O'Hare Airport, C.F. Murphy Associates, were likewise looking for durable public seating that would be easy to maintain and repair. Tandem Seating is a robust, time-proven system that provides a comfortable place to relax while waiting in airports, train stations or other public spaces. It was constructed to withstand extremely heavy use. The durable seat and back panels can be individually replaced on site. Great comfort is guaranteed by the large seat surface and the sandwich construction of the upholstery. The simple modular system makes it possible to combine any number of units.
