Founded in 1962, the International School of Lausanne (ISL) educates students aged three to eighteen. For the transformation of the ageing library into the ISL Impact Hub, the aim was to align the infrastructure and furnishings with contemporary learning and working practices.

During a visit to Institut Le Rosey, another renowned private school in the region, the staff member responsible for the ISL library was impressed by the interior design and Vitra furniture in use, prompting a collaboration with Vitra.

Together with the client, the Vitra Consulting & Planning Studio (CPS) developed a concept that accommodates a wide range of uses. The space itself is designed to support learning: with layouts that can be easily reconfigured, and furniture that enables a seamless transition between concentration, listening, discussion and debate, encouraging active participation among students.
“The space has evolved from a traditional library into a modern, multifunctional Impact Hub with a broad range of uses.”
In combination with colour, materials and lighting, Vitra products such as Joyn2 work tables, Rookie office chairs, Alcove sofas, Kado storage units, Amoebe lounge chairs, Map Tables, Dancing Walls, along with selected pieces from Artek and various stools and side tables, create an inviting and engaging environment.
