Mynt High

Erwan Bouroullec, 2026

The Mynt High counter chair is suitable for use with high tables and bars. The core element is its patented mechanism, which tilts forwards or backwards as the sitter changes position, with the seat moving independently of the backrest. The movement resistance automatically adapts to the user's weight – only the height of the chair requires adjustment.

An elegant footrest provides added support and comfort. The seat and backrest come in a choice of natural oak or dark walnut veneer, as well as recycled polyamide from 100% post-industrial sources. These may be replaced or exchanged for a different material or colour option at any time. The chair is equipped with either a five-star base or four-star base, whose glides can be replaced with castors and vice versa – and the relevant office standards are fulfilled in each variation.

Padded covers are available for the seat and backrest. The polyurethane foam "V-Foam" used in the seat cushion was developed by Vitra in partnership with BASF as the world's first economically recyclable polyurethane foam; the padding of the back cushion is made of polyester fibre. Thanks to zip fasteners, the two upholstery elements can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement – allowing Mynt High to retain its fresh look and flexibly adapt to new needs.

Mynt also exists as an office swivel chair and as the compact Mynt Soft lounge chair.

'Apart from the fact that Mynt had to perform, it also had to be inviting – inviting for any kind of person, any kind of task, at any time.'
Erwan Bouroullec

Fit for any task and space

Mynt defies conventional categorisation and combines the home-like appeal and unassuming aesthetic of a universal chair with the ergonomics of a dynamic task chair. It thus brings a new way of sitting to any setting: a versatile all-rounder ideal for the office – as well as shared spaces – its understated design also makes an attractive addition to home dining tables.

'The movement has defined the aesthetics of the chair – its elegance and functional mechanism go hand in hand.'

Redefines dynamic sitting

The core element is its patented mechanism, which is activated by body weight and tilts forwards or backwards depending on shifts in the sitter’s position – with the seat moving independently of the backrest. The movement resistance automatically adapts to the user’s weight – only the height has to be adjusted.
'Mynt promotes dynamic sitting to a significantly greater extent than conventional office chairs with a synchronised mechanism.'

ETH Zurich investigates Mynt

The study states: ‘On average, the proportion of active sitting increased by nearly 50%, accompanied by a 40% higher frequency of movement.’

Mynt brings a new way of sitting to offices, public spaces and home interiors. It responds to the fact that people no longer sit in the same chair for lengthy periods of time and instead often share chairs with other users. In office settings, Mynt takes on the home-like appeal of a universal chair, while in domestic interiors, it provides the dynamism of an office chair – thus defying conventional categorisations. The core element of Mynt is its patented mechanism. Activated by body weight, it tilts forwards or backwards as the sitter changes position, with the seat moving independently of the backrest. The movement resistance automatically adapts to the user's weight – only the height of the chair requires adjustment. A study by the Institute for Biomechanics at ETH Zurich found that Mynt promotes dynamic sitting almost 50% more than conventional office chairs with a synchronised mechanism, and that movement while sitting is a key factor in healthy work habits. Mynt also exists as the Mynt High counter chair and the compact Mynt Soft lounge chair. The slender mechanism is an integral part of Mynt's design and plays a key role in the chair's understated, home-like aesthetic. The seat and backrest of Mynt and Mynt High come in a choice of natural oak or dark walnut veneer, as well as recycled polyamide from 100% post-industrial sources. These may be replaced or exchanged for a different material option at any time. In the four-star base model, glides can be replaced with castors and vice versa – the relevant office standards are fulfilled in both variants. Upholstered covers are available for the seat and backrest. The TPU foam in the seat cushion was developed by Vitra in partnership with BASF as the world's first economically recyclable polyurethane foam; the padding of the back cushion is made of polyester fibre. Thanks to zip fasteners, the two upholstery elements can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement – allowing Mynt to retain its fresh look and flexibly adapt to new needs. Mynt Soft is a compact lounge chair that combines Mynt's innovative mechanism with cushioned padding to offer exceptional comfort. Mounted on a swivel base, Mynt Soft is adjustable in height – from a low lounging setting to a comfortable position for table seating. Its fabric or leather covers can be replaced by trained service staff.
