Biography
The designer Erwan Bouroullec (*1976 in Quimper, France) is a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC). After completing his studies in 1998, he joined the studio that his brother Ronan had founded in 1995. The two worked side by side for decades and formed an influential creative duo in the world of design. In 2023 Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec parted ways and are now concentrating on their own independent projects. Erwan Bouroullec's studio is currently located in Paris, with another workspace in Burgundy.
A 1999 meeting with Rolf Fehlbaum, Chairman Emeritus of Vitra, marked the beginning of a longstanding partnership with the company, which led to the creation of many important products and concepts for home and office. This enabled the Bouroullecs to expand their influence internationally and also work with other major brands.
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec's works are frequently presented in prestigious exhibitions and museums all over the world, and their creations also feature in many renowned public and private collections, such as the MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Art Institute of Chicago, demonstrating their lasting impact on contemporary design. The two have also received numerous awards, such as the London Design Medal (2014) and the Compasso d'Oro (2022).
