Biography

The artist and designer Ronan Bouroullec was born in Quimper in 1971. After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD), he founded his own Paris-based studio in 1995. His brother Erwan Bouroullec joined him in 1998 to form a productive and complementary duo. In 2023 the two parted ways and now work independently from one another.

A 1999 meeting with Rolf Fehlbaum, Chairman Emeritus of Vitra, marked the beginning of a longstanding partnership with the company, which led to the creation of many important products and concepts for home and office. This enabled the Bouroullecs to expand their influence internationally and also work with other major brands.
Ronan Bouroullec has received numerous awards for his work as a designer. Alongside his design activities, drawing has also occupied an important place in his life since early childhood. In recent years, his drawings have been acquired by public and private collections worldwide, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Cooper-Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum and the Centre Pompidou.
