BERNEXPO AG

Bernexpo AG is a trade fair and event company based in Bern that hosts exhibitions, congresses, concerts and corporate events at a site spanning more than 100,000 square metres. With the opening of the new Festhalle in April 2025, its offerings were expanded to include a new venue featuring a large hall, conference rooms, a foyer and catering facilities.

For the new building, Bernexpo sought furniture that would reflect the high architectural standards of the Festhalle while also being robust, versatile and fully aligned with the company's sustainability goals. Seating in the large hall needed to be especially flexible to accommodate frequently changing event formats. Vitra was selected as the interior design partner due to its extensive experience in the event and contract sectors, the proven quality of its products and its ability to combine sustainable solutions with project-specific requirements.

The Eames Plastic Side Chair RE, with a seat shell made from recycled plastic, met the criteria for durability, seating comfort and responsible use of materials. In addition, Vitra worked with Bernexpo to develop a new seating identification system for the 2500 chairs: a magnetic row and seat numbering system that can be installed and reconfigured quickly and easily, minimising logistical effort and enabling efficient event operations. Belleville Chairs and Belleville Tables are also in use alongside the Eames Plastic Chairs RE.
