A new look for the Lounge Chair Atelier
Vitra Campus, Weil am Rhein
In the Lounge Chair Atelier customers can select the materials of their Lounge Chair by Charles & Ray Eames, receiving personalised advice from the VitraHaus team, and then watch the final steps in the manufacturing process for their new favourite armchair. Located on the ground floor of the VitraHaus, this large workshop has now been refurbished.
The design of the updated Lounge Chair Atelier is inspired by the character and prestige of the Eames Lounge Chair. The calm, tranquil interior features natural, earthy colours and offers a wealth of information about the furniture classic, as well as insights into its artisanal production.

Visitors gain an overview of all the materials available for the Lounge Chair – from different veneer types to the choice of leathers. And to ensure that customers can focus on making the right choices for their new favourite spot to relax, the atelier has been furnished with elegant wood, soft carpets and graphic prints on leather to create a reflective, inspirational atmosphere.
Once the components have been selected, the individual parts are presented to the customer on a leather mat before final assembly – each one a symbol of functional beauty.
