Outdoor

Eating outside is summer’s most precious treat. Take inspiration from Charles and Ray Eames, who held a picnic lunch on the small lawn outside their office at least twice a week. Welcome your guests with a beautifully dressed table and serve them a simple meal made with the best of the season’s ingredients.

Eames Fiberglass Chairs

For their Fiberglass Chairs, Charles and Ray Eames developed colours over a long and meticulous process to give the material an almost natural look. Vitra has selected Elephant Hide Grey, Eames Sea Foam Green, Eames Raw Umber and Eames Parchment from the original palette as the colours for the new Fiberglass Armchairs. The organically moulded shells create distinctive highlights, which are set off by the natural, understated colours. Thanks to this neutral aesthetic, the chairs can be perfectly integrated in a wide range of different environments.

Sea Things Summer Collection 2020

The Sea Things Summer Collection 2020 by Vitra includes the Classic Trays, Paper Napkins and Table Runners, all featuring the Sea Things motif created by Ray Eames in 1945. The designer submitted the cheerful undersea pattern full of starfish, jellyfish, crustaceans, seaweed and other creatures to the 1947 ‘Competition for Printed Fabrics’ organised by the New York Museum of Modern Art – receiving an honourable mention for her work. In collaboration with Eames Demetrios, grandson of Charles Eames and Director of the Eames Office, Vitra is reviving the motif for a limited time period in fresh blue-green hues.
