«Resistance» on the Vitra Campus
13 June – 02 July 2017, VitraHaus Garden
From 13 June – 2 July 2017, the exhibition ‘Resistance’ in the VitraHaus Garden is presenting eleven stone sculptures created by ten international architects: Álvaro Siza, Amanda Levete, Bijoy Jain, Souto de Moura, ELEMENTAL, Carrilho da Graça, Mia Hägg, Paulo David, Studio MK27 and Vladimir Djurovic. Guta Moura Guedes, chairman of the ‘experimentadesign’ research platform, is curating the temporary exhibition.
Resistance is part of the project series ‘First Stone’, an international experimental research programme combining industry and culture/design that invites international architects and designers to explore the potential of Portuguese stone. With the title ‘Resistance’ referring to the characteristic robustness of Portuguese stone, the project investigates its aesthetic qualities and is rooted in its physical and mechanical properties, searching for potential new uses.

The first phase of Resistance was exhibited at the 2016 Architecture Biennale in Venice. During the ART Basel, the second, extended phase will be presented.
