Insights from our future talents

Our students tell you what to expect in your day-to-day work with us and give you tips and insights regarding the dual education programme at Vitra.
How did you start your dual study?
'Before I started my dual study programme, I studied at a regular university for one year. During this time I realised that I was constantly worrying about my lack of work experience. Then I did an internship at Vitra and discovered the dual study programme. I quickly realised that it offered the perfect balance between theory and practice - exactly what I was looking for. In the end, I was offered a place on the programme and was able to continue my journey in this ideal model.'

'I have been interested in technology since I was a child. After technical secondary school, I studied mechanical engineering, but I missed the practical side and the closeness to my family. That's why I chose the DHBW, where Vitra was listed as a partner company.'

(Louis, mechanical engineering student)
What did you expect from your degree programme and have your wishes been fulfilled?
'I wanted to be able to supplement my theoretical knowledge with practical experience and to have contacts who could support me with problems during my studies or at work. My wishes have been fulfilled at Vitra. I was able to get a taste of the day-to-day work of a mechanical engineer at an early stage. The department was very open and always ready to help. I also had great student mentors and fellow students at Vitra who I could rely on with any problem.'

(Louis, Mechanical Engineering student)

'What I wanted most from my degree programme was good support to help me develop both personally and professionally. It was particularly important for me to be able to realise my own projects - not only within the respective departments, but also as part of a study abroad programme or at extracurricular events. At Vitra, I was given exactly this opportunity. I was fully supported and was able to get actively involved. When challenges arose, we worked together to find solutions. Thanks to this support, I was able to realise my potential and continue to develop. For which I am very grateful.'

Which tasks did you particularly enjoy during your studies?
'I particularly enjoyed tasks where I was allowed to work independently and take responsibility. It was exciting to come up with my own solutions and contribute my own ideas. At the same time, I was able to gain a lot of insight into different areas and develop myself. Presenting my results and receiving feedback also helped me to continuously improve.'

(Nikolaj, business Administration and Industry)

'What I liked best were the tasks where I had to work with other students. But all the tasks that I was allowed to manage and organise independently were also very instructive and exciting.'

(Louis, mechanical engineering student)
How were you treated as a student? Did you feel adequately looked after?
'As a student I was always treated very well. The departments were friendly and willing to make time for me, especially when I showed commitment, actively participated and acquired new knowledge. This open and supportive atmosphere helped me to feel well looked after and to develop both professionally and personally.'

(Kateryna, Business Studies and Commerce)

'I felt very well looked after and supported from the very beginning. I was warmly welcomed into the department and accepted as a full member of the team. I particularly appreciated the fact that I always had someone to talk to and never felt like I was on my own. Whatever my concerns, I could always turn to my colleagues and I was always supported.

(Nikolaj, Business Administration-Industry)
What tips do you have for anyone interested in a dual study programme?
'Be open to new topics and problems that you will encounter during your studies and in your career. The studies won't be easy, but with Vitra you have a great partner at your side who will do everything to help you overcome any problems and learn a lot.'
