Insights from our future talents
Our students tell you what to expect in your day-to-day work with us and give you tips and insights regarding the dual education programme at Vitra.
How did you get your place in the dual education programme?
'As I knew I wanted to continue studying after finishing my A-levels while also getting practical experience, I looked around for modern and innovative companies in the area. I saw on the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) website that Vitra was offering a dual education position for the course I wanted to study. I contacted the training coordinator directly and sent off my application.'

What did you expect from your study programme and has it lived up to your hopes?
'I hoped to gain a lot of practical experience, to be able to take on responsibilities and have my own projects – and really feel part of the company. I also hoped to get approval for a possible period abroad. My hopes and expectations were definitely fulfilled. Early on, I was assigned my own topics and projects to work on independently. This allowed me to apply my theoretical understanding and deepen my practical knowledge. And I got the go-ahead for a semester abroad as part of my studies.'

Which tasks did you particularly enjoy during the study programme?
'The tasks I enjoyed the most were projects for which I was given responsibility and where I was allowed to find my own solutions to problems. It's really great that you can take on so many different and challenging tasks. I also always enjoyed working in a team. You do the tasks to the best of your ability, present the results in team meetings and get suggestions. That way, you learn from the experience of your colleagues and can continually improve.'

How are you treated as a student? Do you feel that you receive adequate guidance and support?
'I have had a warm welcome in all the individual departments and I'm always treated like a full member of the team – as if I had been working in the department for years. My colleagues are really accommodating and I can ask them for advice on any matter.'

What tips do you have for anyone interested in a dual education programme here?
'Apply in good time and show that you are interested and that you are an open-minded person who is willing to learn. If it is difficult to decide on the right course of study, a trial work placement or internship can be helpful to get to know the profession and the company better. But if half a year of practical experience isn’t enough for you, Vitra also offers a lot of interesting apprenticeships that provide more practical experience while giving you the best preparation for professional life.'
