For many people, home is the only place where they can truly be themselves. A home interior reflects the history and personality of its users. It is a part of their identity. Vitra believes such environments are best shaped by the principle of the collage – the idea that a vibrant living space gains character through a mix of old and new, high and low, classic and contemporary.
Designs from the twentieth century by George Nelson, Charles und Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, Jean Prouvé and Verner Panton form the core of the Vitra Home Collection. As timely and vital as ever, they have become classics – a term applied by Vitra to designs from another era that are still in production today and continue to move and inspire us.
The first Vitra Home Collection was launched on the market in 2004. Since that time we have worked with exceptionally talented designers to develop new products for the home sector. Designs like the Polder Sofa by Hella Jongerius make striking accents, while products such as Grand Repos by Antonio Citterio or the Softshell Chair by Ronan und Erwan Bouroullec have a much subtler presence. Today the Home Collection also includes a range of accessoires. They enrich any interior and encourage many customers to take their first step into the world of Vitra.
The VitraHaus in Weil am Rhein serves as a vast flagship store and provides an experimental platform for the collage concept. New ideas for home furnishings are presented here to visitors – inspiring, intriguing and inviting them to reflect on their own home interiors.
