The patented mechanism of the Mynt chair family is activated by body weight. Depending on shifts in the user’s position, the seat tilts forwards or backwards independently of the backrest, which also moves in turn. The body remains in a state of active balance when sitting on Mynt, prompted to continually perform a range of smaller and larger movements – whether at home office desks, in office workspaces or around meeting room tables. The various versions of Mynt not only provide a new seating experience, but also ensure dynamic sitting – which has been shown to have a positive impact on physical health and ergonomic comfort: a study by ETH Zurich found that Mynt promotes movement almost 50% more than conventional office chairs. Should the user wish to temporarily restrict the mechanism’s range of movement – such as for upright sitting around a dining table or in a meeting – this can be achieved by operating a lever under the seat.

The models of the Mynt chair family are designed with a small number of parts, which can be replaced individually and are sourced exclusively from Europe. Depending on the model – Mynt, Mynt High, Mynt Soft – and configuration, the chair consists of up to 86% recycled materials and is 99% recyclable at the end of its service life. The seat upholstery – in Mynt Soft also the backrest upholstery – is made from V-Foam, developed by Vitra and BASF as the world’s first economically recyclable polyurethane foam. As a point of comparison, the carbon footprint of Mynt with wooden seat and back shells and a blasted aluminium base is 45.7 kg.

The upholstered covers as well as the castors and glides of the models Mynt and Mynt High can be replaced by users themselves and ordered individually here. For enhanced comfort, the padded covers are available either in a complete set or as individual back or seat cushions.They can be dry cleaned to keep Mynt looking fresh. If the glides need to be exchanged for castors or vice versa, these can be replaced by users themselves. However, this alters the height of the chair and the dimensions no longer fulfil GS requirements (not applicable for Mynt High and Mynt Soft). If these criteria are still to be met, the gas spring also needs to be replaced, which must be performed by trained service staff. On Mynt Soft, the cushions can only be changed by trained service personnel.

A study by the Institute for Biomechanics at ETH Zurich concludes that “the Mynt chair promotes dynamic sitting to a significantly greater extent than conventional office chairs with a synchronised mechanism: on average, the proportion of movement increased by nearly 50%, along with a 40% higher frequency of movement. The results underscore the potential of targeted ergonomic innovations to support movement while sitting, which represents a central aspect of healthy work habits.”

Mynt has successfully passed the BS-5459 test, which means it is suitable for 24-hour use and can support weights of up to 150 kg.

Mynt is delivered fully assembled in a polyethylene bag or on request in a cardboard box. Either way, it is ready for immediate use.
