‘24 Stops’ summer festival

22 August 2021

On the occasion of the ‘24 Stops’ summer festival on Sunday, 22 August 2021, enjoy a fun family excursion along the Rehberger-Weg with a series of entertaining events. With the help of local guides, discover the 24 waymarkers by artist Tobias Rehberger and participate in drop-in workshops. Regional specialities are provided as culinary refreshments along the way.

Guests of the ‘24 Stops’ summer festival will be warmly welcomed at the Vitra Campus and Fondation Beyeler – the start and end of the trail – from 2 to 6 pm. There they will receive refreshment coupons goodie bags with trail maps and snacks for the walk along the Rehberger trail. The coupons can be redeemed for food and drink at the three catering stands. Six workshop stations along the Rehberger-Weg invite children to take a closer look at their surroundings and to creatively capture their impressions using varied materials. The 5-km walk can be concluded with a picnic.

A free shuttle service will be operated between the Vitra Campus and Fondation Beyeler. In the event of bad weather, the festival will be postponed until Sunday, 29 August 2021.

The Rehberger-Weg

Guided by ‘24 Stops’ – 24 waymarkers created by the artist Tobias Rehberger – visitors can explore a uniquely diverse natural and cultural landscape. The Rehberger trail with its waymarkers provides an opportunity to learn about and retell the history and stories of the surrounding area and its people, and invites visitors on an excursion into the countryside. The idea was developed and implemented by a consortium comprising the Fondation Beyeler, the municipality of Riehen, Vitra and the town of Weil am Rhein.

The idea of a cross-border trail was initiated within the framework of IBA Basel. IBA Basel is a regional development process that awards the IBA Label to outstanding, large-scale projects aimed at strengthening tri-national cooperation and boosting the region’s image.

Stretching over five kilometres, the Rehberger-Weg links two countries, two communities, two cultural institutions – and countless stories. It runs between Riehen and Weil am Rhein, between the Fondation Beyeler and the Vitra Campus. On the Swiss side, it leads from the picturesque Berower Park, home of the Fondation Beyeler, past the natural swimming pool in Riehen, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, and continues on the German side through the Tüllinger Hill vineyards to the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. It takes around one and a half hours to walk the Rehberger-Weg with its ‘24 Stops’. The starting points of the trail are conveniently linked to public transport and can be reached in less than 20 minutes from Basel city centre or from Lörrach (D) or St. Louis (F).
