Comfort in a wide palette of colours

The style, typology and functional characteristics of Vitra sofas are so diverse that customers often immediately and intuitively recognise which model is the right choice for their needs. Yet all models have one thing in common: their superb comfort – whether it is invitingly soft like the Anagram Sofa or on the firmer side such as the Soft Modular Sofa, more upright like Suita Sofa or expansively luxurious as with Grand Sofà – as well as their use of high-quality, durable materials.

Sit as you like

A sofa's appeal is not just based on looks, but also on its 'inner values'. Decisive criteria are high-quality upholstery construction and correct seating proportions – for comfort and longevity.

Vitra uses both soft and firm types of upholstery padding. Alternatively, some people speak of rigid or casual upholstery. In the case of softer padding, the cover material will have a more rippled appearance – a desired result in regard to both design and construction. The general principle is: the softer the padding, the more deeply users will sink into the sofa – such as with the Anagram Sofa.

If the internal construction of the upholstery is more rigid, the cover fabric will remain smooth, with minimal rippling effect. The typical characteristics of firm upholstery are clean lines and a relatively stiff seat, as in the case of the Soft Modular Sofa or Suita Sofa. Firm upholstery makes it easier to sit down and get back up.

Choosing the right cover materials

The cover forms the outer jacket of the sofa, featuring a perfect fit adapted to the required seating comfort.

For a long-lasting sofa: removable covers

All Vitra sofa covers can be fully removed by the Vitra service team for cleaning and replacement. This not only applies to loose seat and back cushions but also to the covers of complicated body structures, such as Suita Sofa or Grand Sofà, with the aid of concealed hook and loop fastening systems.

With the Anagram Sofa, you can even remove the covers yourself and take them to be professionally cleaned - or replace them someday to give your sofa a brand-new look.

Sofa care

Just a little care helps your sofa keep its shape in the long term. Here you can learn how to best maintain your sofa and what can be done if a mishap does occur.
Upholstery care
To retain the original fullness and shape of your sofa, cushions with feather and down fillings should be vigorously shaken and plumped at regular intervals. Folds and creases from sitting can be prevented by regularly smoothing the cover material after use. A uniform appearance can be sustained by using the entire seating surface with the same frequency and avoiding unilateral loads.
Cover care
The sofa cover should be vacuumed regularly (weekly to twice a month) using the upholstery nozzle. Crumbs, sand and dust continually accumulate on the cover and are rubbed into the fabric or surface of the leather through normal use. The entire surface of the sofa should be wiped down with a damp cloth now and then, which will keep the cover looking fresh. This should be done at longer intervals (every six months to once a year depending on level of soiling) after the surfaces have been vacuumed. The cloth must just be moistened with water and not soaking wet, and should be clean, lint-free and wrung out. Do not use coloured cloths for wiping, as they might leave visible traces on light-coloured covers!

Normally the use of cleaning agents is not recommended; if necessary a few flakes of a mild, neutral soap can be fully dissolved in the water prior to wiping. This treatment is suited for both fabric and leather covers. After wiping the covers, they should be allowed to completely dry before using.
