ヴァーナー・パントンによってデザインされた、世界初のプラスチックによる一体成形型キャンチレバーの椅子である「パントン チェア」は、名作家具デザインの傑作のひとつです。このチェアは、ヴァーナー・パントンとヴィトラが1959年代から開発を始め、1967年に量産化に成功しました。量産化開始以降も、パントンが掲げた大きな目標のひとつであった、プラスチック製の椅子を手ごろな価格で販売することを実現するため、両者はよりよい素材や製造方法を試行錯誤し続けてきました。その結果として1999年に発表したのが現在のポリプロピレン製のモデルです。
Verner Panton
Verner Panton was an influential figure in the world of design during the 1960s and 1970s. After moving to Switzerland in the early 1960s, the Danish-born architect and designer became known for his bold and inventive concepts for interiors, furnishings, lighting and textiles. The masterful use of colour was a defining hallmark of his work.
