Vitra Campus North
VitraHaus

The entrance point to ‘The Art of Living’ installation on the second floor of the VitraHaus is the spiral staircase, where visitors can take in a panoramic view of the Vitra Campus before immersing themselves in the space.
'The Art of Living' combines classic and contemporary furniture, objects and art. The interior is carefully curated with a clean and uncluttered aesthetic yet remains warm and inviting. The space is divided into three areas – kitchen, living room and home office – which flow seamlessly into one another.

The Shakers: A World in the Making, 07 June – 28 September 2025

How did an 18th-century American free church inspire generations of artists, architects and designers around the world? The Shakers were a religious group for whom design, and architecture were an expression of beliefs surrounding community, labour and social equality.
The new exhibition »The Shakers: A World in the Making« examines how this resulted in meticulously crafted furniture and vernacular architecture that continue to resonate centuries later. Bringing together a wide range of Shaker furniture, architectural elements, tools and commercial goods, paired with newly commissioned works by contemporary artists and designers, »The Shakers: A World in the Making« reveals the complex social, material and spiritual context that created the »Shaker style«, and what possibilities its values offer today. An exhibition organised by the Vitra Design Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia, and the Wüstenrot Foundation in collaboration with Shaker Museum.

Khudi Bari, Marina Tabassum

A Khudi Bari (Small House) by architect Marina Tabassum was built on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein.
Floods in Bangladesh, which are becoming increasingly frequent as a consequence of climate change, regularly force hundreds of thousands of people to search for a new dwelling. It was in light of this context that Marina Tabassum and her team developed Khudi Bari: more cost-effective than existing solutions, this small home is designed to be erected, dismantled, transported and rebuilt elsewhere without any specialist assistance.
Not only are the idea and design of the Khudi Bari concept impressive, but also the creative execution of this architecture of necessity. As an illustration of the architect’s unique vision and a practical response to problems exacerbated by the climate crisis, a Khudi Bari is now being constructed on the Vitra Campus.

Fire Station, 19. June - 27 June, 10-6 pm

The installation in Zaha Hadid’s Fire Station marks the launch of RIMOWA Vitra 2025 and introduces two limited-edition pieces: the Aluminium Stool and Aluminium Toolbox.
Rooted in shared values of mobility, multifunctionality and material expertise, the two products reflect a world in constant motion and respond to the shifting boundaries between living, working and being on the move. Three spatial settings – Home, Office and Public – explore the adaptability of these objects across diverse environments. At the heart of the collaboration is aluminium – a durable, timeless material that has long defined the identity and craftsmanship of both RIMOWA and Vitra.

Science Fiction Design: From Space Age to Metaverse

How was and is the future being imagined in design? The annual presentation at the Vitra Schaudepot is dedicated to the vision of a new world, and crosses a bridge from the furnishing in early science fiction movies to design for virtual spaces.
Groundbreaking design objects from the collection of the Vitra Design Museum show how technical innovations and design utopias have found their way into our everyday lives and directly shape our everyday world.
