The Art of Living

VitraHaus, Level 2

The entrance point to ‘The Art of Living’ installation on the second floor of the VitraHaus is the spiral staircase, where visitors can take in a panoramic view of the Vitra Campus before immersing themselves in the space. 'The Art of Living' combines classic and contemporary furniture, objects and art. The interior is carefully curated with a clean and uncluttered aesthetic yet remains warm and inviting. The space is divided into three areas – kitchen, living room and home office – which flow seamlessly into one another.

The kitchen REFLECT is designed by Jean Nouvel for Reform, with appliances from the renowned Swiss company V-ZUG. The kitchen island, ovens and refrigerator units structure the room without dominating it, and their perforated stainless steel fronts change appearance as the light hits them. The La Fonda Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames invite guests to take a seat at the large wooden table.

In the adjoining living area furnished with Eames Lobby Chairs and a daybed, an olive green deep pile carpet creates a cosy and welcoming ambience. The (add brand here) sofas are upholstered with black and white striped fabrics that add a contemporary flair. The scenery is enriched by large photographic wall prints by the Dutch artist couple Maurice Scheltens and Liesbeth Abbens, whose work focuses on elaborately constructed still lifes.

In front of the large window, a home workspace features iconic furniture pieces by Jean Prouvé, showcasing their versatile function and appeal. A thoughtfully chosen array of refined objects, geometric patterns and classic design elements further enhances the setting to form a lively atmosphere. Throughout the curated space, the combination of textiles from Dedar and Kvadrat with premium materials such as marble, wood and matt stainless steel creates a pure, visually accentuated atmosphere.
